Chief Executive Officer, Chief Compliance Officer


John W. Ohl is CEO, CCO of Bay Colony Advisors.  John is responsible for Bay Colony Advisors’ direction, vision, strategy and serves as chair of the Bay Colony Advisors Executive Committee. He and his leadership team set and execute key growth initiatives, as well as provide oversight of all investment management teams and client business. John also oversees Bay Colony Advisors business operations ensuring all are compliant with SEC regulation. His responsibilities include the firm’s strategic positioning, asset generation, and oversight of the company’s investment policies. 

John's financial and professional career has focused on advising, and wealth management in areas related to investment management, financial planning, financial modeling, and portfolio analysis. John has served highly affluent families, private family offices, foundations, charitable organizations, pension plans, and institutions since entering the financial industry in 1986.  In 2010, John founded Bay Colony Advisors with his business partner James Catacchio when he recognized that independent advisors needed an affordable institutional platform to simplify compliance and back office support services.  

John is married with two daughters and enjoys spending time with family kayaking throughout Massachusetts, as well as hiking or skiing the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  He serves on the Financial Advisory Board of Saint Julia Parish in Weston, MA.

James Catacchio

Executive Vice President, Chief Operations Officer


James C. Catacchio, Executive Vice President, and Chief Operations Officer at Bay Colony Advisors handles all operational aspects of Bay Colony Advisors. In addition to as serving as Chief Operations Officer, James is an assistant portfolio manager at Bay Colony Advisors, and serves as a director on the board of Bay Colony Advisory Group, Inc. After starting his career at Ameriprise Financial, and working in the brokerage world for a number of years, James decided to join a more specialized, boutique investment advisory firm, on the fee-based side of the business. In 2008, James joined Bay Colony Advisory Group, Inc.

James, his wife Lauren and son Vince reside in Carlisle, MA, where he serves on the town Finance Committee.  James has been an avid cyclist for a number of years, and can often be found on the back roads and trails of New England during the summer weekends. James received a B.S. in Finance from Bentley University in 2005, and is currently studying at Boston University for a CFP® designation.

Jeffrey M. Leonard, CFP®

Chief Technology Officer

Jeff Leonard of Leonard Financial Group, located in Melbourne Florida, has joined Bay Colony Advisors as Chief Technology Officer of the firm.  Jeff has served on the Fidelity Technology Committee and is well versed in knowing the technological needs in the Wealth Management Industry.  Jeff will oversee maintaining and improving the technology systems at Bay Colony Advisors and will become the firm’s technology voice with our lead custodian, Fidelity Investments. 

Jeff is the founder, Managing Principal of Leonard Financial Group, a Registered Investment Advisor firm and CFP® providing fiduciary financial planning services for east and central Florida. Jeff graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Math minor.  He is Certified Financial Planner™ and an Investment Advisor Representative. He is also a member in good standing with the National Ethics Association. 

Jeff and his wife, Julie, have been married since 1990 and are the proud parents of two children, Hope and James.  Jeff is active in the community having previously serving as coach, treasurer and president of the Space Coast United Soccer Club.   They are parishioners of Ascension Catholic Church in Melbourne and believe in giving to the community and have happily sponsored and donated to many local charities.

Deb Phipps

Chief Administrative Officer


Deborah Ann Phipps is the Chief Administrative Officer of Bay Colony Advisors with a demonstrated history of working in the financial services industry for over 15 years. After graduating with a B.S. from Skidmore College in 1985, she worked for years in Boston at Fahnestock & Co., Thompson McKinnon, and Prudential Securities, as a Licensed Senior Broker's Assistant.  She has previously held Series 6 and 7 licenses.

In her role at BCA, Deb directs the Onboarding process with new Registered Independent Representatives. She also provides implementation, information, and guidance of accounts for the firm's corporate and retail clients. Additionally, Deb works with the firm's advisor clients to help ensure they are running their practices at optimal efficiency.
